Viaje del Sol: A Good Night's Rest at Sulyap, Part 5 of 7

Rate this:

With our friends Pat and Joey at Sulyap's Casa de Obando Bed and Breakfast.

We headed from Dolores, Quezon to San Pablo City to get a good night's rest. Where best to sleep in this South Luzon region than in an old Spanish house setting, circa 1800s?

Sulyap, Filipino term for "glimpse", is a gallery cafe with bed and breakfast accommodation housing Spanish antiquities. It is right smack in the heart of San Pablo City. It has its own lovely old world charm and draws you back to the days of Ibarra and Maria Clara.

A collection of santos that you can find in the cafe.

Instead of getting a good night's sleep, we were kept awake by loud noises coming from our next room neighbors. Unfortunately, the sound proofing of the rooms in this Spanish casa is quite poor. We heard every word they said!

As if nothing could be more worse, the plumbing in the sink is having second thoughts of accommodating us. We were a family of four sharing a sink badly in need of repair.

It was a good thing that Sulyap redeemed itself with its delectable breakfast at the 1907 Restaurant. We were soon placed in good mood with the delicious Tsokolate Eh! and local Marinated Cured Beef with Sunny Side Up Eggs (in other words, "Tapsilog"!)

Maria Clara might have loved to spend her afternoons here.

The service was quick and and our host for the day was very charming... I just wasn't sure if he was a he, a she, or a fairy!

The cafe was adorned with Spanish furniture and knick knacks.

Sulyap Art Gallery and Cafe is also home to a 3,600 sqm school-turned-museum. The kids excitedly went about exploring the Spanish antique collection of owners Roy and Arthur.

Inside the museum with furniture collected since 1985.

These pieces reminded me of my childhood in the province.

Porcelanas inside the glass encased cabinet.

Aparadors of long ago...

Assortment of old lamparas or oil lamp stands.

A vintage wooden rocking horse.

An old Underwood typewriter.

Including this vintage Lambretta scoot which we found sitting just outside the museum, as if waiting for a ride across town.

We definitely had a great "Glimpse of the Past" at Sulyap!
